McCarthy will prove hard act to follow
Telegraph.co.uk – Nov 17, 2001
“The side who finished third in the World Youth Championship in Malaysia in 1997 has so far only produced Damien Duff, but the winners of the European Youth Championship the following year has spawned a whole cluster of players, including Robbie Keane and Gary Doherty, who have since graduated to senior level. Manchester United’s John O’Shea could be the first of many to make the step up from the triumphant under-17 side of that same year, who now comprise the nucleus of the under-21 team. With World Cup qualification and a top seeding for Euro 2004, the FAI are contemplating a return to the glory days which will have McCarthy shouldering further expectation. “We’re looking at a series of qualifications now,” said Menton. “A repetition of the old times is very much within our grasp. We’ve a very young team and if you look at the 11 players who were not playing in Teheran, they’d make a fairly decent international team, too. “Menton revealed Ireland’s new standing in the game – they are now ranked 20th in the world – might lure Argentina to Lansdowne Road for a friendly next April… “We’re looking at a series of qualifications now,” said Menton. “A repetition of the old times is very much within our grasp. And this week a delegation from South Korea are visiting Dublin in the hope of persuading the Irish to base themselves in their country at next year’s finals. After eight years without qualifying for a major finals and three consecutive failures in the play-offs, suddenly Ireland are a team in demand again. McCarthy believes they will.

McCarthy emerges as flavour of the month
Telegraph.co.uk – Jan 7, 2002
McCarthy needed a sense of humour, not to mention a strong resolve, during the early stages of the trip in the wake of the Roy Keane saga in which the Manchester United captain was sent home for being “a disruptive influence”. There was an emotional roller coaster ride with the Irish supporters and media but public opinion, swayed by an unbeaten record at the finals, was eventually with McCarthy. But how long McCarthy stays with Ireland remains to be seen, and… He has his eyes on a “double double”. McCarthy was a player at Euro 88 and Italia 90 and, having managed Ireland at the 2002 World Cup finals, he would like to lead them to Euro 2004 in Portugal, where he is currently on holiday. He said with a grin: “I want to come back in a couple of years, too. ” On the beach McCarthy will reflect on the good, the bad and the ugly of the finals from a personal and team perspective. Had Ireland beaten Spain, as they deserved to, in the second round,.

Scotland ready to appoint Vogts
Telegraph.co.uk – Dec 27, 2001
He was paid a signing-on fee of £120,000 and earns £25,000 a month, a salary which is considerably in excess of that paid to any previous Scotland manager, including Brown, who was on around half that sum in his combined posts of national team manager and director of football during his eight years in charge. Vogts will expect no less than the top salary on offer from the SFA – £350,000 a year plus a 50 per cent bonus should he steer the Scots to Euro 2004 in Portugal and the World Cup finals in Germany two years later. The SFA may be willing to go higher but not remotely near the £1 million a year level quoted in some quarters and they will also have to pay compensation to the Kuwaiti Football Feder- ation, who want Vogts to remain in place until the end of their participation in the Gulf Cup in Saudi Arabia next month. At the outset there were critics or suggestions that the SFA would never be able to afford candidates A, B or C… He was paid a signing-on fee of £120,000 and earns £25,000 a month, a salary which is considerably in excess of that paid to any previous Scotland manager, including Brown, who was on around half that sum in his combined posts of national team manager and director of football during his eight years in charge. I am proud now to see all those players in the full team. “But Howard wanted to be in charge of the Under-21s because he was technical director. I understand that up to a point but his timing was not the best. He should have left it a year because it was going so well. People think I am telling porkies but I had a week with Howard in Malaysia at the Under-20 World Cup, we had a few glasses and a few cigars and I found him very interesting on football. He is a very intelligent man. “Sunderland are opening the stadium on Dec 18 and I have told the chairman I am going to get Howard a nice bottle of red wine because I know he is fussy on his red wine and a nice cigar because he is fussy on those as well… We needed more attacking set-patterns at training. There was tiredness and humidity but we just didn’t have enough flair or ideas to get around 10 men. But I fancy us for Portugal [Euro 2004] or Germany [the 2006 World Cup]. I have spoken to Sven and Tord [Grip] since. “Sven has taken some stick. People say he is quiet on the bench. He is but he says enough.

Woodgate’s England wait
BBC News – Jan 3, 2002
Bowyer was found not guilty of involvement in the attack on Sarfraz Najeib. Both players were banned by the FA from representing their country until the high-profile court case was concluded in December 2001. But while Bowyer’s international ban has been lifted, final discussions on Woodgate have not yet taken place within the FA. Chief
executive Adam Crozier is not due back from holiday until next week and Eriksson
himself is about to take a rare break. It is likely the situation will become at least slightly clearer by the time

Manager Mick McCarthy was clearly emotional when he spoke to RT? Sport following the final whistle and it seemed the frustrations of the last six years were finally lifted from the former Irish centre-back who is now on his way to another World Cup. “One of the nicest touches about all this for me was being applauded back in the dressing room by the players when I finally got there at the end of the game,” said McCarthy. “We’ve come a long way and had to get over the disappointment of not finishing top of our qualifying group and getting to the finals automatically. Now we’ve lost the very last match and I’m not happy about that – but I guess we’ll accept it because of all the joy of going through,” he added. McCarthy’s wife Fiona and other members of his family were waiting to greet him at Dublin Airport and for once, McCarthy could greet them with a smile. “My life has been put on hold with these qualifiers and you never forget the feeling two years ago and two years before that when we didn’t quite make it in Belgium and Turkey. But this time the family don’t have to worry… There is no grumpy old dad coming home. ” McCarthy and the FAI are set to open talks about a new contract for him soon after the World Cup draw takes place in Korea on December 1. His current agreement runs until February but there is every indication from both sides that he will receive a new two-year-deal taking in qualification for Euro 2004 in Portugal. Brendan Menton, chief executive of the FAI said: “We’re very relaxed about Mick wanting to leave things for a few weeks. After the World Cup draw when FAI officials come back from Korea, I think we will conclude matters fairly quickly. ” Filed by Amanda Fennelly.

Vogts tops Scotland shortlist
Telegraph.co.uk – Dec 16, 2001
Despite reports that the Scottish Football Association might have to increase the salary to attract the right man, there is no truth that £1 million a year is on offer. As has previously been disclosed by the Telegraph Sport, the salary will be £250,000-£350,000 a year plus 50 per cent performance bonuses. If the new manager took Scotland to the finals of Euro 2004 and the World Cup in 2006, he would earn around £2. 5 million over a 4… Scala, who enjoyed considerable success as a club manager with Parma and Borussia Dortmund, has made an impression because of his gravitas, while the younger Troussier, who will be in charge of Japan at the World Cup finals, has made it plain that he is excited by the prospect of becoming the first foreign coach to lead the Scots. Traditionalists within the SFA favour Rioch, not only because he would extend an unbroken tradition of native managers but also because he is a disciplinarian of the old school.

Liverpool’s Baros appeal
BBC News – Dec 7, 2001
The Department of Employment knew Liverpool would be appealing even before they went through the motions of turning down the application for the 20-year-old. Liverpool knew last week when they made their initial application they would be refused at the first stage because Baros has played only 40% of the Czech Republic’s competitive internationals in the past two years. The Banik Ostrava player does not meet the 75% criteria – but to meet this stipulation he would have had to have played for the Czechs in Euro 2000 as a 17-year-old. “The initial permit refusal was expected… “He would also have been in the full squad earlier had the Czechs not wanted to keep him in the European 2000 Under-21 competition. “It was important for the Czechs to do well in that tournament, but he might well have been a full international long before that. ”

The Czechs have no other competitive internationals until the Euro 2004 qualifiers, which start in September. Baros is suspended from the first three because of his red card in the World Cup play-offs. To meet the Government criteria he would have to wait until January 2003 to play any further competitive games for his country, and this could be deemed as unfair to curtail his professional career until then. The panel could sit within the next fortnight and a decision confirmed early in the new year.

Another example: While talking about Black Lives Matter, Obama said the Fake Oakleys Sale following: “if police organizations and departments acknowledge that there’s a problem and there’s an issue, then that, too, is going to contribute to real solutions. And, as I said yesterday, that is what’s going to ultimately help make the job of being a cop a lot safer.”He gave an example of former discount football jerseys NFL coach Tony Dungy, who constantly missed out on promotion cheap nfl jerseys shop because of his coaching philosophy. Dungy believed the key to winning was changing Replica Oakley Sunglasses players’ habits so they stopped making decisions during a game and instead reacted automatically and habitually. He said: “Champions don’t do extraordinary things, they do ordinary things but they do them without thinking. They follow the habit they’ve learned.”With regard to those outside of the sports fraternity who are critical of Kaep, that’s their opinion (for whatever it’s worth) and they are entitled to it. However, given that these athletes are taking advantage of their forums as NFL players, I would take their opinions on Kaepernick even more seriously if I could see their protest statements regarding other racial issues. For example, Eric Gardner being choked to death (only a few miles from where Cruz practices), or the killing of Philando Castile (just outside of St. Paul, Minnesota minutes from where Alex Boone lines up to play football). I would really like to see their expressed opinions on the outrage regarding the killings of Mike Brown, or 12 year old Tamir Rice, or perhaps 7 year old Aryana Jones, or Trayvon Martin, and the scores of others who have died at the hands of police since 2012 including the Cheap Jerseys senseless death nfl jerseys cheap of Oscar Grant on a BART station platform in Oakland, California. I’d love to see their protest statements on the systematic economic underdevelopment of generations of Black communities by both government and private mainstream corporate interests underdevelopment that has so devastated the institutional cheap nfl jerseys viability of most of these communities where crime and violence exist on a scale of pandemic public heath issues. I eagerly await their records of protest over systematic, anti Black job and educational discrimination, or over the institution of unconscionable rates of Black male prison incarceration. If you are throwing a baby shower party for your friend, then you need to pay attention to every little detail, however tedious it may seem. The focal point of a baby shower party, apart from gift ‘showering’ upon the mommy to be, is the cake cutting event. Just like birthday or christening, baby shower is also a life cycle event in one’s life. Therefore, it requires a delicious cake that will stand out in your friends’ memories for years.
