The German ace said he was here on a short visit thanks to the Emirates airline. “They made me play golf on my last visit and nowadays I’m good golfer. I’m very old to play football,” he said. Speaking to newsmen at the offices of the UAE Football Association in Dubai, Baukenbauer said he was not thinking at present of his future as president of Fifa in 2007. “I’m pre-occupied with organisation of the World Cup 2006 and I have to fulfil my mission. Stambouli turns down new Mali deal
CNN – Mar 4, 2004
Stambouli took Mali to the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup last month but a spokesman said he had decided not to take up an offer of a new contract with the west African nation. Stambouli had been on a short-term contract with Mali from October last year until the end of the Nations Cup tournament in February. During his brief tenure the 42-year-old saw Mali through the preliminary round of the 2006 World Cup qualifiers against Guinea Bissau and then made some controversial omissions in his squad for the Nations Cup. However, he was able to persuade Tottenham striker Frederic Kanoute and Valencia utility player Mohamed Lamine Sissokho to play for the country after a change in FIFA rules on international eligibility. The pair had both previously represented France at junior level. Tunisian newspapers have reported that Stambouli was in Tunis at the weekend to discuss a job offer from former continental champions Club Africain, one of Tunisia’s leading teams. At the same time Algerian press reports said he was a candidate to take charge of their country’s national team.

Kenya keep their coach
BBC News – Mar 3, 2004
Although his contract expired on 29 February, he was given a mandate by the Kenya Football Federation (KFF)to continue. “We were supposed to open new negotiations after the team came
back from Tunisia but this has not happened,” Mulee told BBC Sport. After his return from the Cup of Nations finals in Tunisia, Mulee made it clear that he was unwilling to work under the same conditions which gave his team inadequate time to prepare for the tournament. “Our major concern is how or when the national team is supposed to assemble… “We were supposed to open new negotiations after the team came

It appears the team is forgotten, as the KFF officials campaign for the elections,” said Mulee. Mulee, who was in the presence of team manager David
Ochieng and assistant coaches Twahir Muhiddin and Mickey Weche, challenged the KFF to let the football fraternity know what plans
they had for the national team. He warned that Kenya was in a tough 2006 qualifying group which had African champions Tunisia and runners-up Morocco.

Kaiser thumbs down to Africa
Calcutta Telegraph – Mar 4, 2004
According to him, it may not have been such a smart idea to agree to allow Africa to stage the World Cup for the first time in 2010. ?Europe cannot wait 24 years to host the World Cup,? the president of the 2006 World Cup organising committee said. ?Uefa made a big mistake to accept this rotation in my opinion. Europe is the biggest market, the World Cup without Europe is not a World Cup,? he said in Dubai. ?The big question is, can one African country organise the World Cup? We are talking about 32 countries, to have more than one million foreigners coming, can you solve this problem? Which country can manage this? Maybe one, South Africa can, maybe Morocco because it?s bidding for the fourth time. Egypt, I don?t know.

“He’s obviously disappointed but no more than that. “He accepts fully the ups and downs about getting selected. ”

Harlequins’ Leonard surpassed retired French centre Philippe Sella’s mark of 111 caps when he came on as a replacement against France in the World Cup semi-final in November 2003. But Woodward is keen to look forward, and admitted he had long had his eye on Bath prop Stevens. “We’ve been looking to play this guy Stevens since the Barbarians game [in December],” said Woodward. “I just didn’t want to expose him in an away game against Italy or against Scotland, and I’m very happy with young players such as him, to let them experience playing at Twickenham. “He played against the New Zealand Barbarians and its all about picking a player we’re excited about.
