Bid regulationsAt its meeting in Nyon, Switzerland, the UEFA Executive Committee approved the bid regulations for EURO 2012, which means that all member associations will have until 31 January 2005 to inform European football’s governing body about their interest in hosting the final round in under eight years’ time. December 2006 decisionBid dossiers will have to be submitted to UEFA by 21 July 2005, and the Executive Committee will draw up a shortlist of up to three bidders in November 2005. The hosts of EURO 2012 will be named in December 2006. Two phasesThe bidding process for the EURO 2012 final round is being split into two phases, and is aimed at saving resources not only for UEFA, but also for bidding associations. Joint hosts in 2008The EURO final round in 2008 will be hosted jointly by neighbouring countries Austria and Switzerland, who signed the staging agreement with UEFA in Vienna in November.

Italy willing to bid for Euro 2012, says federation chief

“Candidacy must be presented by November 2005 and the Italian football federation is willing to do it,” federation president Franco Carraro told the Italian agency Apcom after Thursday’s federal council meeting. “However it does not depend from us but from the state ( government). “Carraro said government money was needed to improve stadiums and possibly build new ones, in line with UEFA requirements.

The first phase pre-selection of three bidders will be made by the UEFA executive committee on November 10, 2005. Last January, Ferenc Gyurcsany, at the time Hungary’s Sportsminister, came to Bucharest to discuss a common candidature withhis Romanian counterpart. The two countries agreed to postpone a final decision for ayear while they looked into the bid. “Romania is not able to host such an important event,” FRFpresident Mircea Sandu told reporters on Saturday.

Poland, Ukraine to joint Euro 2012 bid

Ukraine had already sought to co-host the event with Russia whose president Vladimir Putin vetoed the idea. Now Poland are set to join Ukraine in a bid to co-host the event. Poland’s ambassador in Kiev Marek Ziolkowski said: “The Polish government has decided to support this idea. ” Scotland and Republic of Ireland, who failed in a joint bid to stage the 2008 event, are among the others in contention.
