US players have chance to save the game
USA Today – Jan 7, 2005
They may have been reading (or posting to) BigSoccer. com, where some folks floated the arbitration idea Jan. The arbitration offer is this: Let each side take an offer to an arbitrator, who will pick one or the other. If the players accept, everyone can go to camp and get ready. To put it in terms the poker trendoids will understand, the Federation is going all-in. The Federation likely sensed that they were losing in the court of public opinion, and losing badly… players earned for the same accomplishment in World Cup 2002, the bigger tournament. When the Greeks wound up winning Euro 2004 in a colossal upset, the Greeks earned far more than the U. would’ve earned for winning in 2002, Levinstein says. Levinstein undercuts his argument with a spurious point about money supposedly lost by the European-based players. As told to Wheelock: “Our European based players who come to the National Team lose more money in appearance fees and win bonuses (from their clubs) in the games they miss, than they get paid by the Federation to play for the National Team.

Jarosik completes move to Chelsea
CNN – Jan 6, 2005
It’s a great challenge for me and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity. "Jarosik joins a club where the competition for midfield places is intense with England internationals Joe Cole and Scott Parker both currently unable to secure a regular place in the starting line-up. Jarosik, who was part of the Czech Republic’s squad at Euro 2004, will not be available for Chelsea’s Champions League campaign having already appeared for CSKA this season. His move to London will see him team up once more with Petr Cech, with whom he played at Sparta Prague earlier in his career.

Owen up to No 4 on all-time list of England scorers

It would be a fantastic achievement but I’ve just got into the 30s and after every goal I score now everyone will be saying ‘well, there’s one less’. ” Of his 32 goals for England, Owen did not need long to rummage through the mind’s attic to dig out his favourites. “The best goals came in one night against Germany and against Argentina [France 98]. “The goal against Portugal [Euro 2004] was a nice one. Then there was Brazil in the quarter-final of the World Cup. A team always need a flier who can score… ” Of his 32 goals for England, Owen did not need long to rummage through the mind’s attic to dig out his favourites. “The best goals came in one night against Germany and against Argentina [France 98]. “The goal against Portugal [Euro 2004] was a nice one. I’m not great at doing other things but I’m not a bad goalscorer. ” Owen praised the contribution of his Real Madrid colleague.

At breaking point: the stars finding that more equals less
Sunday Times – The Sunday Times – Jan 7, 2005
And the sad result has been that England have been knackered by the time they come out to bat. They haven ’t played like tossers, but combat fatigue and soul-deep weariness have affected judgment. It is not that they have failed to try; they have tried to try, but all that cricket, all that physical hard work, all that intensity, has finally caught up with them. Now we hear that the pivotal man in the team, Andrew Flintoff, is suffering from injury. He has bowled too many overs, simple as that. Someone was going to break down; it would, of course, be him. He may be able to bowl in the next Test… The last World Cup was remarkable not for excellence but for upsets. Organisation generally beat mere talent and genius was non-existent. Greece won Euro 2004. The reason for these subfusc events is that the most talented players play far too much. By the time they reach the end of a long, hard season they are in no shape for an important tournament. They are knackered. Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham: knackered.

‘What I have done is disgusting and I’m so ashamed, but I’m only human’, sobbed Collymore. ‘I can only beg for forgiveness. ‘ But as Big Ron was later to discover, public acts of contrition do not always lead to redemption. Collymore lost his job as a football pundit and was last seen degrading himself on The Farm, the reality TV show in which Rebecca Loos notoriously masturbated a pig. Ms Loos’ rather tenuous claim to fame rests on a somewhat insubstantial body of work, namely pleasuring a pig on TV and having ‘text sex’ with Becks (allegedly). One suspects that the curly finger will soon beckon for her. Not all hitherto innocent words have been eroticised by overpaid, oversexed footballers… ‘Bouncebackability is an absolutely phenomenal word because it’s very rare for a word to have such public backing so immediately’, admitted Jeremy Butterfield editor-in-chief of the Collins English Dictionary. ‘The chances of it going into our dictionary are very high. Rooney can do things with a football that can make grown men weep (and I don’t mean that in a dogging or roasting way), but, like all good British sporting icons, he can also provoke grown men to hurl vile abuse. When he wears the England jersey he carries the nation’s hopes and expectations (ie, we hope to win but expect to go out on penalties), but the rest of the time you’ll find us chanting: ‘He’s fat, he’s scouse, he’s gonna rob yer house’ or ‘He’d rather shag your granny than Colleen’. Rooney was a central figure in the bad-tempered clash between Manchester United and Arsenal that was subsequently dubbed the ‘Battle of the Buffet’.

Roque road to glory

They’ve got a new coach and are playing well, but I believe we have a real chance to go through. com: Which Liverpool players do you admire the most? Roque Junior: They have Milan Baroš, who played magnificently at [UEFA] EURO 2004™, and obviously Steven Gerrard. He is very dangerous, but he is not the only player there. They have a good team. com: Leverkusen were surprise winners of Group B, beating Real Madrid CF in the process, but things have been tougher in the Bundesliga.

Ronaldo’s Red pledge
manchesteronline.co.uk – Jan 7, 2005
The 19-year-old was allowed a pre-Christmas break back home in Madeira by the Reds boss to ward off burn-out following a hectic summer at Euro 2004 and the Olympics with Portugal. But the 19-year-old has still been the subject of criticism over his form during the festive season. However, Ronaldo told MUTV viewers in a phone-in that it has nothing to do with tiredness or so-called `second-season syndrome’. “I don’t think this season has been harder for me. Every player has his good and bad moments,” said the winger… “I don’t think this season has been harder for me. Most sites and papers and still featuring James Beattie interviews in which he says he didnt receive a reason why he was omitted from Englands Euro 2004 squad and he hopes to prove Mr Eriksson wrong and force his way back into the England side. The other main story the Mirror is carrying is that Thomas Gravesen is one of 3 options they have to follow up on this January. Mark Van Bommell and French wonder kid Rio Mavuba are the others however Gravesen will prove the cheaper option should the spanish giants decide to make any offers. Moyesey would hate to lose Tommy and as he said in pre season, would resist any bids and keep him on till the end of the season even though he could then walk for nothing. Back to our 6m pound man and he has told the Liverpool Echo that he hopes he and real life friend Marcus Bent can forge a great partnership at Goodison… “He is a big step for us in trying to catch the really big clubs we find ourselves rubbing shoulders with at the moment. “This is an important signing and something we want to do more of. I have not necessarily made this signing with Europe in mind this season. “BBC’s John Motson who will be providing commentary for the live FA Cup game on saturday has been hyping up the match as a potential bannana skin for the blues “With Plymouth being back on the football map with two championships in three seasons, and with it being a part of the country we don’t go to that often, I think it was a tie that did leap off the page. “I think Everton having had that really good run, and then a mini slump, has put it back on the edge. So, yes, you certainly can’t discount the possibility of a shock. “Nothing more to report as of yet, keep checking back for any possible updates.

Instead of just allowing your gloves to maintain water moisture, your gloves should certainly be dried as wholesale jerseys thoroughly as possible. With the right pair of receiving gloves, a receiver can have even greater confidence in himself and his ability to catch critical catches. Rice Cooker I consider myself a cheap oakleys pretty decent cook, but for some reason, I cannot make rice. I always manage to burn the bottom, or have the pot sputter and boil over. Since I love rice with my beans, veggie stir fry, and more, I invested in an inexpensive rice cooker that even has a brown rice setting. But the greatest benefit is that it cooks more than rice! I’ve made batches of fruit and nut oatmeal to last a whole week, creamy risotto, and a variety of whole grain dishes including wheatberry salad, kale and farro salad, and quinoa for “pizza muffins.” Ever since I got my rice cooker, I’ve been eating a greater variety of whole grains, and I’m burning fewer pots!Martin’s reaction to the “hazing”, which appears to be widespread within the National Football League, has turned into a national debate over race and sport. Many do so without the need for publicity. For example, the NFL pushes their ties with the United Way in the faces of those watching the games. wholesale jerseys What you don’t see, are the players there that support the programs without the need for special recognition. Athletes are some of the best examples of millionaires that give money to help for the right reasons. Many professional athletes start up their own foundations to offer assistance to others. Regardless of the sport, there’s a good chance several of the athletes have their own foundations to assist others in need. Many millionaires that give money to help others do it in anonymously, so you know it’s not just a publicity stunt. It’s a great example of wealthy people doing their share.
