Wales boss Toshack in plea to the old guard
Edinburgh Evening News – Dec 3, 2004
“Right from the start there has been speculation about one thing or another and now we find ourselves four games in with just two points. “Then we have seen players finishing. People may be thinking that this World Cup has slipped away and the next qualifiers for Euro 2008 do not start until 2006. “The question is, do we need people around now who may not be around in 2008? “I think yes. Maybe some of these experienced players can make the passage easier for the younger lads. They may not be there when we get to the European finals, but wouldn’t it give them great satisfaction if they have helped youngsters come through and play their part. That’s how I would look at it.

Germany Rout Thailand to End Asian Tour on High Note
Arab News – Dec 22, 2004
?There have been a lot of positives to take from the trip,? Klinsmann said. ?The integration between the younger players and the experienced players was a major plus. ?Meantime, Switzerland?s hopes of building a new stadium in Zurich for the 2008 European championship were dealt a blow yesterday when a leading bank said it would not help finance the project. ?Discussions showed that the construction of a new stadium for Zurich would have brought a number of problems and political risks,? Zuercher Kantonalbank, the country?s third largest bank, said in a statement. ?Sponsoring this project with a three-digit million franc sum would have been completely out of proportion to our other sponsoring activities. ? The new arena, which was to be built north of the city near the airport, would have cost up to 130 million Swiss francs ($113… Earlier this year, the city of Zurich said Letzigrund would be ready by the summer of 2007, a deadline set by European soccer?s governing body UEFA. Under the proposal, 5,000 temporary seats will be added to the athletics stadium, bringing it up to the 30,000 all-seater capacity required by UEFA, and thus giving Switzerland the four international stadiums that it promised to deliver during the bidding process. The seven other venues selected for Euro 2008 are Basel, Berne and Geneva in Switzerland and Vienna, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Innsbruck in Austria.

Smith takes up Scotland reins
Sunday Times – The Sunday Times – Dec 3, 2004
Even though, officially, the SFA board had met just hours earlier to decide on Vogts’s replacement, word had leaked out four days earlier. Taylor informed Strachan in a telephone call yesterday morning of his failure to land the job. Smith, 56, is being given a four-year contract that will take him up to Euro 2008 but the former Rangers and Everton manager — who declared himself refreshed after the best part of two years away from the game — insisted that Scotland’s hopes of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup are not dead, despite the dreadful start under his predecessor that brought just two points from the opening three matches. Smith plans to retain the services of Tommy Burns, the assistant to Vogts and one of the other main candidates for the vacancy, but will dispense with the German’s fondness for friendly games. It is unlikely that Smith will arrange any fixtures before the World Cup qualifying match in Italy in March… Though Smith earned acclaim in his younger days as a coach — under his care, Scotland won the European Youth Championship in 1982 — in the latter days of his career he has forged a reputation of someone whose greatest attri bute is his man-management. Anyone who can look after England’s L’enfant terrible, Paul Gascoigne, as Smith did at Rangers for three successful years, ought to be able to get more out of Scotland’s lost boys. Smith did not agree with the opinion of Graeme Souness, his former managerial partner at Ibrox, that he was taking over the worst generation of players ever to wear dark blue shirts, who have slipped to 77th in the Fifa world rankings. “Scotland may not have the great individuals they once had,” Smith acknowledged. “However, we have a lot of good players in the international set-up who will, hopefully, respond to being in a more solid team. I hope to foster a good team spirit. I would like to think that Scotland are better than 77th in the world.

Quinn issues rallying cry
December 30, 2004
Sheffield United midfielder Alan Quinn has urged teammates to forget about the playoffs and push for automatic promotion, starting with Sundays match against fellow high flyers Wigan. United are the in form team in the Championship and star midfielder Quinn says they should fear no one. ?We?ve played everyone now and to be honest I?ve not seen anyone that we should be scared of. There?s no one that we?re not capable of beating and that includes Wigan. ?
Quinn continued by saying ?At one stage Wigan were 15 pints in front of us but we have caught them now. We are looking at a top two finish now. ?

Irish Soccer | Injury woe for O’Shea | – Dec 31, 2004
The injury will be particularly frustrating for the Waterford man as he had started to show signs of his best form when filling in for the injured Gary Neville in recent weeks. “John is out maybe for two weeks but hopefully not as long as that,? confirmed United boss Alex Ferguson. O?Shea will definitely miss the league games against Middlesborough and Spurs, while he has little chance of facing Exeter City in the FA Cup. However, he should be recovered in time to be considered for the Carling Cup clash with Chelsea on January 12. Today’s other Across the Water football headlines:.

UEFA’s Executive Committee will finalise proposals on homegrown players at its next meeting in February, in order for the proposals to be submitted to Europe’s football parliament, the UEFA Congress, in Tallinn, Estonia in April. UEFA ideasLast summer, UEFA made public a first set of ideas on the subject and issued proposals for the inclusion of a minimum number of homegrown players (for example, seven or eight) out of the 18 players on match sheets, and a limitation on the number of players in club squads (for example, 25). UEFA is concerned that some clubs are not training enough of their own players, but simply signing them from elsewhere. Club licensingThe first season of UEFA’s new club licensing system is also continuing. UEFA’s club licensing system is based on a series of sporting and administrative criteria. From now on, in order for a club to be admitted to any of the UEFA club competitions, minimum standards in areas including infrastructure, personnel, administration, and legal and financial matters must be fulfilled… The Champions League final will be staged in Istanbul on 25 May, a week after the UEFA Cup final in Lisbon. Women and FutsalYouth, women’s and Futsal events are also on the agenda – in particular, the UEFA European Women’s Championship final round in England in the summer, the UEFA Futsal Championship final tournament in the Czech Republic next month, and the Meridian Cup featuring European and African youth teams, which will take place in Turkey in February. Countdown to 2008 With the future in mind, preparations will be gathering pace for the UEFA EURO 2008™ final round in Austria and Switzerland. The co-hosts signed the staging agreement in Vienna in November, and are hard at work setting up the infrastructures that will be needed to emulate the success of the memorable 2004 championship in Portugal last summer. Southampton 2 Middlesbrough 2: Plucky Boro spoil Redknapp’s day-Sport…
Sunday Times – The Sunday Times – Dec 12, 2004
He was out of touch at first — who would not be, given such little faith in him — but he grew as the match progressed and gave Boro’s veteran centre-backs, Colin Cooper and Gareth Southgate, all manner of trouble. It took until the stroke of half-time for Southampton to take a deserved lead. Rory Delap, barracked by the Southampton fans because of his evident lack of confidence, delivered the ball down the left flank. Graeme Le Saux had too much knowledge for 18-year-old Tony McMahon, and still enough pace to drift inside the full-back. Then, with the strongest weapon that Le Saux has always had, arguably the best left foot unused by England in the past decade, he delivered the ball to the near post.

“My people implored me to become president, I had to answer them,” said UNICEF goodwill ambassador Weah after announcing his candidacy on 16 November. Liberia was devastated by a civil war between 1990 and 1997 which claimed 150,000 victims while Weah was in Europe, winning the Ballon d’Or in 1995. However, the 38-year-old striker, known as ‘Mister George’, received a rapturous welcome in the Liberian capital Monrovia when he came back from New York to settle in his native city on 27 November. “I love my country and want it to unite,” said Weah, who scored well over 100 goals in European football.

The Patriots earned another trip to the Super Bowl with this 23 20 win over the Ravens. Despite the fact Joe Flacco (306 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception) had a better day than Tom Brady (239 yards, 0 touchdowns, 2 interceptions), New England pulled off the win with strong performances by BenJarvus Green Ellis, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski. Brady’s 1 yard goal line rushing Cheap NFL Jerseys touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the deal for the Patriots. 17, 2010: Patriots 23, Ravens 20The lossof a first round draft pick still stings for many Patriots fans, but this mightactually be as good a year as any for the team to overcomesuch a hindrance. Entering the 2016 NFL draft, most of the Patriots’ biggest needs are not at the top of the depth charts, but in the middle.Ideally she wants to come down until her arms are about a 90 degree angle, so down and then back up. If you have any shoulder or joint pain you can variate that as needed, so you can come down just a little bit and then back up, but she’s keeping her torso very straight. Online services, individually, are cheaper, but you may need several cheap China Jerseys to get everything you like to watch.A sampling of some of the biggest internet TV options:DirecTV Now joins Sling and PlayStation Vue as an online cable replacement. These can be cheaper than traditional cable, but not always by much. They’re not as complete, as they don’t provide broadcast networks ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC in all locations and sometimes lack a DVR.Live offering: Two separate, “skinny” bundles of general interest channels. Both cost less than $30, but each are missing some popular networks. While I’m certainly not a superfan of football, I will tell you that one of the first things I demanded when I got my new cable package was RedZone, the NFL cable channel that shows football all day every Fake Oakleys Sunday during the regular season, jumping from game to game without commercials. I consider it one of the few really great new ideas cable has had in a while, and I made sure I’d have it. I’ve been considerably cooler to the idea this year, both because of the injury issues Almond spends the most time on in this book and because of the issues the league has with both domestic violence and transparency. It has to be a two way street.I don’t like the presumption that it should only be players that show loyalty to the club and not the other way around. Often it seems that cheap football jerseys the clubs have all the power and the players have all the obligation.I have been fortunate enough to play for a club that is renowned for its professionalism Cheap Jerseys China and the manner in which it looks after its players.
