The winners and runners-up in the seven qualifying groups will go through to the UEFA EURO 2008™ final round in Austria and Switzerland in three years’ time. The qualifying-round format is decided by UEFA’s Executive Committee at its meeting in Tallinn, Estonia. The qualifying phase for EURO 2008™ consists of one group of eight teams and six groups of seven. 20 AprilUEFA pledges tough action in an effort to prevent further scenes of disorder in European football stadiums which endanger the safety of players, fans and referees. “We are going to be very firm in our statements towards all stakeholders in European football that what has happened in the spring is not acceptable,” says UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson. “We will send a very clear signal to everyone involved that they have a responsibility to safeguard security. There will be a clear message on what is accepted in our competitions… UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson presents UEFA’s ‘Vision Europe’ strategy for the direction and development of European football over the coming decade to Europe’s national football associations at the XXIX UEFA Ordinary Congress in Tallinn, Estonia. Delegates are told that UEFA’s philosophy is based on three main principles – that football is the body’s raison d’être, with an essential objective being to help keep the European football family united. UEFA should not adopt a defensive posture in relations with major internal and external stakeholder groups, but should listen and seek dialogue, and continue updating and modernising structures and relationships. UEFA’s work should also be based on co-operation and exchange with the rest of the football world as part of an overall learning process for football’s benefit. UEFA President Lennart Johansson says that he will make no official declaration on the UEFA presidency until 2006, adding that his continuing work as UEFA President would also depend on his health and age-related criteria. “I shall tell everyone where I stand then”. Mr Johansson calls for vigilance by the football family in preserving traditional values and unity against a number of dangerous elements threatening the game.

On the field of play, as well as behind the scenes, the months ahead will be anything but quiet,” he continues. “No fewer than 13 UEFA champions will be crowned in 2005, And by the end of the year, the World Cup qualifiers will have reached their conclusion. EURO 2004™ may still be fresh in our minds, but UEFA EURO 2008™ is already under preparation. 2005 is not going to be an idle year, far from it!”25 JanuaryUEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson is convinced that the summer’s UEFA European Women’s Championship final round will play a fundamental role in raising the profile of the women’s game throughout Europe. “Women’s football is very strong in Europe, something which was verified by two European teams reaching the final of the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup,” says Mr Olsson. “Now we have to take further steps to keep it in this position. Women’s football is not a copy of the men’s game and needs to be judged on its own merit; in a way it is more entertaining.

When I played against them for Hearts they did really well against us. They’ve players that can hurt teams but they just don’t seem to. I don’t know why that is, I’ve not got a clue, but with the players here we should be doing much better. It’s as frustrating for the players as for the fans. ” Problem is, one of the fans is the chairman. Eddie Thompson has poured more than £3m of his personal fortune into the Tannadice pit but his reserves of patience are not so deep. Three managers have been dispensed with in four years and Gordon Chisholm will surely become the fourth if he cannot get the club moving toward the top-six place that would reflect the chairman’s investment… ” It was this time last year that Miller escaped from Bristol to Hearts, now he must hope that he can be galvanised again without changing clubs. His next chance comes on Tuesday, with bottom-placed Dunfermline the opposition in a match postponed from yesterday. He still has six months to take United into the top six and catch Smith’s eye before the Euro 2008 qualifiers begin. Time yet to find a way out of the Tannadice triangle.

Uefa wary of unlikely alliance
Telegraph.co.uk – Dec 16, 2005
After a meeting of Uefa’s executive committee in Nyon yesterday, chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson claimed the stories “had very little basis” while readily acknowledging Henry as a role model. England have missed out on the opportunity of staging the European Under-21 Championship finals in 2007 after Uefa’s executive committee awarded them to Holland. Kit manufacturers Umbro have extended their sponsorship agreement with the Football Association to the end of the 2013-14 season.

I trained with them for a few days and looked around the club. It?s a big club with a massive support, massive stadium. It?s not like I?m going to a team that?s below Cork. But I?ll probably make a final decision by the middle of this week. ?

Grim soccer season for Turkey
Turkish Daily News – Turkish Daily News (subscription) – Dec 22, 2005
Tactical naivety: However, some of Turkey’s problems remain of their own making. Tactically, a poor understanding of set pieces and lapses of concentration continue to be the unfortunate hallmarks of Turkish soccer, often canceling out the skill and passion that mark the best of what the nation can offer. Questionable concentration: The problem is not a new one. Their Swedish opponents won only one corner, in the dying minutes, and scored the winning goal from it. Terim concerned: Such blunders are familiar at the very highest levels, even among Fatih Terim’s national team, and possibly derive from a traditional reliance more upon individual skill than concerted team effort. Such characteristics are certainly ones the national team coach is eager to stamp out… Terim concerned: Such blunders are familiar at the very highest levels, even among Fatih Terim’s national team, and possibly derive from a traditional reliance more upon individual skill than concerted team effort. Such characteristics are certainly ones the national team coach is eager to stamp out. European standard: Following Turkey’s failure to qualify for the World Cup finals, Terim called up the 47 young players who he hoped would form the nucleus of Turkey’s UEFA EURO 2008 and 2010 World Cup campaigns for a special training camp. There he urged them to target a European, rather than Turkish, standard of soccer. Crowning glory: Finishing third at the 2002 World Cup remains the crowning glory of Turkish soccer, but the concern is the legacy of that success has been a degree of complacency. This season, Turkey’s finest have been reminded that there is much to do if they are to truly join the European elite.

FIFA WORLD CUP: The year in international football

The latter, who appointed Fatih Terim as coach in late June, subsequently won in Kiev and then ensured a play-off place, Denmark finishing third and Greece fourth. Dutch runThe Netherlands ended with the best record in Europe as they strolled to first place in Group 1. They began 2005 with a 2-0 win in Romania and did not let in a competitive goal this year, eventually clinching qualification with victory by the same score in the Czech Republic. The Czechs bounced back to pip Romania to the play-offs. Pauleta recordPortugal’s first Group 3 fixtures of 2005 saw them take four vital points from nearest rivals Slovakia. A 2-1 win against much-improved Liechtenstein on 8 October booked Portugal’s qualification. In their following 3-0 victory against Latvia, Pauleta scored twice to take his qualifying tally to a Europe-leading eleven, and his international total past Eus?bio’s Portuguese record 41… The Swedes were also the only European team to average three goals a game throughout qualifying. EURO drawWith this month’s draw grouping hosts Germany alongside Poland, Ecuador and Costa Rica, the road to Berlin is mapped out for Europe’s finest between 9 June and 9 July. Before that, though, the focus turns to Montreux on 27 January for the UEFA EURO 2008? qualifying draw. datos de la noticia

Everyone says I’ll be making way for Roy but he’ll take the media…
Sunday Times – The Sunday Times – Dec 18, 2005
Gordon Strachan revealed on Friday that he consulted his captain before closing the deal. “I know everyone is predicting it’s going to be me, but obviously I want that not to be the case,” said Lennon. “He might not be thinking of playing him in midfield because Bobo (Balde ) is going to be away for six weeks (at the African Nations Cup). I do know he’s quite happy with the way me and Stan (Stilian Petrov) are playing together and he might be reluctant to break that up. We’ve got a good understanding because we have played together for five years now. I cover the defensive side and there’s not many better than him at getting beyond the opposition’s back four. His goals record (one from every four Premierleague games) speaks for itself and his all-round game has come on a ton.

Several Soviet directors tried to turn it into a film in the 1980s but plans were shelved for financial or legal reasons. One director, Vladimir Naumov, claimed that the ghost of Bulgakov’s widow had come to him in a dream and said: “No one will make this picture. ” Yuri Kara, a Russian director, completed a movie version in 1994, but he fell out with his producers and the only copy was stolen from his safe. It was never shown in public.

Kewell recovers from trouble and strife-Sport-Football-TimesOnline
Sunday Times – The Sunday Times – Dec 17, 2005
He cannot yet claim to be back to his best, but Kewell is smiling these days and that, after the problems he has had, is a start. The last time anyone saw him looking happy on a pitch was in the glorious aftermath of Liverpool’s Champions League triumph over AC Milan in Istanbul in May, but that smile, he admits, could hardly conceal a private despair at the way the evening had gone for him on a personal level, limping off after barely 20 minutes and hearing some supporters jeering as their patience with him snapped. Kewell did not feel part of the celebrations that night, but he will do tomorrow if Liverpool beat São Paulo to win the Club World Championship in Yokohama, especially if, unlike the semi-final against Deportivo Saprissa on Thursday, he is more than merely an unused substitute. “It would mean a lot to me to try and help Liverpool win this title,” he said. “Any game you are part of you want to win, but yes, I suppose more so after Istanbul. It was great to be part of the team that won the European Cup and it was a great team experience, but on a personal note it was a nightmare. ” Kewell, 27, is not the type to go looking for sympathy, but he did ask for a little understanding about what he has been through.

Hamburger flyingSchalke are the only club involved to have lifted the trophy, having triumphed in 1997 with a penalty shoot-out victory against FC Internazionale Milano. Of the other seven teams entering the competition from the UEFA Champions League, Club Brugge KV face arguably the toughest test as they encounter Italian giants AS Roma. FC Thun will not relish meeting Hamburger SV either, with the 1983 European champions riding high in the Bundesliga. FC Shakhtar Donetsk against LOSC Lille Métropole also catches the eye. French challengeIndeed, Ligue 1 was well represented in today’s draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, with RC Strasbourg, Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco FC all winning their groups to earn ties against PFC Litex Lovech, Bolton Wanderers FC and Swiss league leaders FC Basel 1893. RC Lens drew Italy’s Udinese Calcio as a French side looks to lift the UEFA Cup for the first time. Tough testLike Bolton, England’s other representative Middlesbrough FC have a stern examination against VfB Stuttgart, while another Bundesliga outfit, Hertha BSC Berlin, tackle AFC Rapid Bucuresti whose fellow Romanians FC Steaua Bucuresti drew SC Heerenveen.

Using gas jets from the science classrooms as accelerants, the boys ignited the escaping gas causing an estimated ninety percent of the school’s buildings to go up in flames. The motive for such devastating destruction was simple revenge. Earlier, the school’s principal had caught the boys with an alcoholic beverage on campus which lead to disciplinary action against the boys. According to the fire marshal’s report, the fire had been started in several different areas of the school. Though no one was injured or killed in the initial blaze, two firefighters were injured during the attempt to control the replica oakleys flames. One area of the school that was totally destroyed was the library. Of the school’s compliment of library books, the only books to survive the fire were the books that had been previously checked out to students before the fire was started. Although permanent records were saved, no office areas survived. The stuffed Kenya lion mascot used during games and pep rallies perished in the flames. The only building to survive the massive fire was the gymnasium. Those 34.9 million units of Windows Phone sales/shipment were also 90% from Microsoft’s own Lumia brands. They are one of the worst teams in the league with a 1 6 record and could certainly use all the ammunition they can get to replenish their roster. As for what it could cost, a mid to late round draft pick might get the job done, but considering the lack of talent at wide receiver for the 49ers plus his age and production, he could command a higher price.
