Materazzi reveals insult to Zidane
CNN International – Sep 5, 2006
Inter Milan center-half Materazzi was given a two-match ban by world governing body FIFA. Materazzi said that when Zidane offered to give him his France jersey after the final whistle, in response persistent shirt-tugging by the Italian, he had replied: "I would prefer your sister. "Materazzi insisted however that he should not blamed for sparking the incident. "I did not cause it," he told Gazzetta. "I answered verbally with a provocation to defend myself. "Yes, I was tugging his shirt, but when he said to me scornfully ‘If you want my shirt so much I’ll give it to you afterwards’ is that not a provocation? I answered that I’d prefer his sister, it’s true. "It’s not a particularly nice thing to say, I recognize that… I didn’t even know he had a sister before all this happened," added Materazzi, who is suspended for Italy’s Euro 2008 qualifying rematch with France in Paris on Wednesday. Zidane was given a three-match ban for his part in the spat, but as he had retired from football he was made to do three days of community service instead. Materazzi criticized FIFA for what he felt was favoritism shown towards the Frenchman. Head-butted"I only know that I was the one head-butted and I got a two-match ban," said the Inter Milan defender. "I would have done three months or even three years of community service to be on the pitch at Saint Denis on Wednesday, but I definitely count less than Zidane.

Confident Finland takes on Portugal in Euro 2008 qualifying
International Herald Tribune – Sep 5, 2006
“We have also to be realistic against a nation who has made the final and the semifinals in the last two big tournaments. ” Finland’s wingbacks are considered its weakness — Petri Pasanen is playing out of position on the right, as is Toni Kallio on the left. Goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen says not exposing them will be critical. “Portugal will surely have greater possession, but we can’t allow players like (Cristiano) Ronaldo to receive the ball quickly up front,” Jaaskelainen said. Striker Jari Litmanen, who scored two goals against Poland at age 36 in his 103rd match for Finland, also netted twice against Portugal in a 4-1 friendly win in 2001 in their last previous encounter. Portugal was beaten 4-2 by Denmark in a friendly on Friday, but Jaaskelainen remains wary. “I have learned that practice games don’t count for anything — only the games with points at stake do,” Jaaskelainen said.

Dutch farmer boy plays Russian roulette watched by a nation and…
Guardian Unlimited – Sep 5, 2006
“That is so Russian, all closed,” he says. Little in Hiddink’s world is secretive. The Dutchman’s interpretation of glasnost means everything from his liaisons with Roman Abramovich to the attraction of managing in England and thrill of riding a Harley Davidson illegally can be freely discussed. Only when the subject turns to Chelsea and the notion that he might be the next manager, does he deliver a short reply… Everyone has his preconception [about Abramovich] but I experienced a very humble and a very normal person. He was talking about football and everything that has to be done for his country and he asked me, and the president of the federation, if I could help them out to bring the country back on a higher level. “His primary objective is to secure a place in Euro 2008 from a group that includes England, although he has quickly discovered the size of the task. In the Russian first division there are more than 220 foreign players. “That means I have 60 players to pick from and only 35 are playing in the first-team frequently. That’s one of the problems we have to face and not hide from. “Russia need results and not excuses, and Hiddink, with his impressive track record, is seen as a sure ticket to success.

Swedes sent home after late night
CNN – Sep 5, 2006
The association named the three players as Inter Milan striker Ibrahimovic, Aston Villa defender Mellberg and Nantes midfielder Wilhelmsson. "It is the consideration of the team’s leadership that the three broke the common agreement and it has therefore been decided that the three have to leave the team in Gothenburg immediately," the statement added. Lagerback said: "The decision I took is the most irritating I have had to take in my career not only as national coach but as a coach," he said. The team management explained that the trio had left the hotel against orders and had not returned until the early morning, though, according to some reports they did not drink alcohol. Mellberg had been celebrating his 29th birthday and his agent released a statement saying his client apologized for not having respected the curfew. Sweden, who disappointed at the World Cup finals crashing out tamely 3-0 to Germany in the second round, won their opening qualifier on Saturday beating Latvia 1-0 in Riga. Tools: Save |

RTÉ Sport: Brazil defeat defiant Welsh – Sep 5, 2006
Ryan Giggs matched anything Brazil could produce, and that is saying something with Ronaldinho and Kaka on the pitch, and youngster Gareth Bale played with maturity beyond his years. Wales held out for an hour before Marcelo’s long-range strike, and Vagner Love’s clever flicked header completed the victory. Wales’ youngsters and lower division players will take this performance with them into more serious Euro 2008 combat knowing that they managed to live with the world’s elite. Bale, Southampton’s 17-year-old starlet, was plunged into the biggest game of his life and never looked overawed, producing control, positioning and tackling that belied his tender years. Here is a youngster John Toshack will find difficulty keeping out of his senior side. Bale came in at left-back, with Sam Ricketts, Mark Delaney and Carl Fletcher left out from the Wales side that lost their Euro 2008 qualifier in the Czech Republic on Saturday. It meant that Richard Duffy came in at right-back and Robert Earnshaw up front, and as the first half progressed, Wales grew into the challenge and deservedly reached the break level… Then Duffy and Fletcher combined for a cross that Bellamy hooked over after 57 minutes. A minute later Real Madrid’s Cicinho took over from Maicon. With so much possession, Brazil were continuing to make openings, and they finally scored after 58 minutes when Marcelo was not shut down quickly enough and he unleashed a dipping, swerving 25-yard shot that evaded Paul Jones’ dive. Rob Edwards came on for Duffy after 63 minutes, by now Wales were tiring and Brazil looked like scoring again. When Ronaldinho swerved an exquisite effort inches wide from the edge of the box you began to fear for Wales. But that was the great man’s last involvement and he was replaced by Robinho, the somewhat bizarre scenario of Crewe’s David Vaughan passing him as he went off, taking over from Davies. Bellamy saw a cross shot go wide after Vaughan had sent him through on the right, but Brazil struck again after 73 minutes when Cicinho’s cross was deftly flicked home by Vagner Love’s head.

McClaren hopeful about Ferdinand
CNN International – Sep 5, 2006
"He came through training yesterday and will train again this afternoon,"said McClaren. "Provided he comes through without reaction then I will decide on my team," added McClaren. He said that defender Luke Young and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland would not be with the squad after picking up ankle and back injuries respectively. McClaren also said he was under no illusion about how tough the match was going to be. Exactly three years ago to the day England beat Macedonia 2-1 in a Euro 2004 qualifier in Skopje when Macedonian fans burnt English flags in a match overshadowed by racist abuse from the home supporters. UEFA have warned that if there is a repeat of that behavior the match could be awarded to England under tough new statutes aimed at dealing with violence or racism at matches. "The difference with three years ago is that sanctions are much tougher now.

World Cup finalists in clash – Sep 5, 2006
article-tools –> BARNABY CHESTERMAN September 05, 2006 11:15pm FRANCE and Italy are gearing up for a grudge rematch tonight as the next round of Euro 2008 qualifiers kicks off around Europe. The match had already been billed as a revenge mission for the French after their World Cup final defeat on penalties in July. But if that, and former captain Zinedine Zidane’s infamous headbutt on Italy defender Marco Materazzi, were not enough to stoke the fires of discontent before kick-off, the neighbours and perennial rivals have also resorted to trading insults in the build-up. Italian bulldog Gennaro Gattuso has described the French as bad losers ahead of the crunch Group B battle. "When we lost the Euro 2000 ten seconds from the end we didn’t go around moaning about it afterwards," said Gattuso. "It’s true that we usually find it a bit hard to swallow defeats, but they (France) are a lot worse. "At least on that score, Italy come runner-up to France," added Gattuso.

Republic could get Robson boost
BBC News – Sep 5, 2006
Robson is now making good progress following surgery to remove a small brain tumour. His presence could be crucial with boss Steve Staunton likely to be banned from the sideline for at least one game. “Obviously I need to continue to listen to the doctors, but I’ve been making real progress,” said Robson. Staunton is facing a ban after being ordered from the dug-out in Saturday’s opening qualifier defeat against Germany.

Smith fumes over Jones’ blisters
BBC News – Sep 5, 2006
But the blisters, believed to be a result of Jones wearing new boots in training, put pay to his hopes of making the substitutes’ bench in Teplice. And the ever-improving midfielder suffered further heartache when the blisters became infected and so denying him the chance to face Brazil at Tottenham’s White Hart Lane. Smith said he was now desperate to ensure Jones will be fit for Saturday’s home League Two match with league-leaders Swindon. Smith told BBC Wales Sport: “He hasn’t trained since last Friday and he won’t be training until Thursday at the earliest… That’s what football’s about – you have your disappointments, and Mark will be disappointed he won’t be playing against Brazil. “But he’s got to get over it and I’ve got to make sure he’s available for me on Saturday. “I’ll be having a long chat with him because I’m not happy with the situation.

high school football player changes courseOh, wait, they already did. The only reason they didn’t get away with it was because the historic college football rivalry between Stanford and Cal is commonly known as the Big Game, and the NFL’s proposed trademark would have stopped even them from using the phrase. If it were up to the NFL, they’d href=”” target=”_blank”>cheap jerseys probably trademark the words “the,” “big,” “game” and “football” while they’re at it.Psychological compartmentalization appears to be at work. Fans waited through an off season Fake Oakley Outle that stretched for most teams from January until September regular season games. The anticipation level for this season was astronomical. Fans of an individual team, fantasy players, and bettors couldn’t wait for the season to begin. The rituals of Sunday afternoon have become integrated into our culture. And when there is negative news, even if it involves the NFL, where do fans turn? They turn to the actual games for the excitement and respite from day to day life.Pushed the piece of paper back across my desk and said, I set with my goal, Perry recalled recently. think he has always thought that way, and we chuckle about it now. The 22 year old from the tiny school with the football program that has played just 16 seasons could hear his name called in the later rounds of the draft.Your focus needs to be primarily on providing content that answers the questions and addresses the concerns of your potential customer. The Z82 code indicates that a factory installed seven wire trailer brake harness is taped under the instrument panel on the driver’s side, the wires being routed between the parking brake pedal and the driving brake pedal. The seven wires simply need to be attached to a connector that will mate with the connector supplied with every aftermarket trailer brake controller. My husband was with me with both of my deliveries. But i wish i had had the courage to kick his butt out of the room. During the first delivery (which was the first time he ever saw a woman give birth or even had thought about how the baby was going to come out) he was holding one of my legs while I was pushing and he kept pulling my leg over my head and displaced my hip. And wouldn look at me or our daughter afterwards Cheap NFL Jerseys while he processed everything. (he comes from another country with a very sheltered culture). The second time I started to push and no one could find him, because he had left to get something to eat (two counties away) When I called him on his cell, he swore I was lying because my first took longer. And when he did show up, he kept moaning about not getting to finish his dinner, meanwhile I replica oakleys hadn had anything to eat all day after they had induced.
