The Last Word: Time for a change
Jerusalem Post – Nov 20, 2006
All that euphoria about Israel’s first three Euro 2008 qualifiers and this team being the best for years came undone on Wednesday night. The skillful Croatians competed with and beat the Israeli players in attack, midfield and of most obviously defense. Israel may have scored three goals, but an impressive 13-match home unbeaten streak was snapped due to an embarrassing defensive display that allowed four goals. To score three goals at home and still lose is nothing short of an embarrassment. There is little doubt that the Omri Afek experiment will now be shelved, although we cannot be so sure that he won’t continue playing out of position for his club, Betar… And the usually unflappable Tal Ben-Haim, who performs week-in and week-out for Bolton in the English Premier League, looked entirely out of sorts. On the left side of the defense, it became clear that Adoram Keisi is getting too old and off the pace. All in all, not a great back four and not the way to win international matches. Not that the rest of the team was much good for most of the match. Since the games against France and Ireland a yearand-a-half ago, Yossi Benayoun has appeared to find it difficult to reproduce his club form for the national team. He may be close to becoming a star in East London but for Israel, Benayoun often fails to make much of an impact. True, he scored a quality goal, but besides that, he was less than penetrating.

Championship Review: Proud Preston Join Bluebirds On Top – Nov 20, 2006
It was a third straight win for Rangers, who have taken 18 points out of a possible 30 since John Gregory took over as manager on 20 September, compared with six points from a possible 24 before his appointment. After the game Cardiff manager Dave Jones commented: “They came to do a job and they have taken away the points. If you are not going to win then you have to make sure you do not lose. I have no complaints, because we started poorly and finished poorly, and there were not enough attempts on goal. They got the goal without any sustained pressure. It was bad defending on our part. ”
As for QPR manager Gregory, he enthused: “I’ve been so proud of them since I became manager.

Sacked Blackwell To Sue Leeds United – Nov 20, 2006
That has prompted LMA chief executive John Barnwell to explain: “Mr Bates said Blackwell was dismissed for negative comments made in the press about the club’s finances, not for poor results,” said LMA chief John Barnwell. “We have no option but to put the matter in the hands of our lawyers. ”
Blackwell would not comment on the issue when asked by BBC Radio Leeds. Dennis Wise has succeeded Blackwell in the Elland Road hot-seat, but the Whites remain in the relegation places. They were beaten 0-3 at home by Southampton on Saturday. Blackwell, 47, was dismissed on 20 September, the day after Leeds beat Barnet 3-1 in the Carling Cup. He was appointed in May 2004, in succession to Eddie Gray, and took Leeds to the Championship play-off final last season, but the club were second from bottom when he was fired.

Gallas: Henry Right To Snub Barca – Nov 20, 2006
“Those who say ‘Thierry Henry was wrong not to join Barca, he has lacked ambition’, are wrong,” Gallas told skysports. “We will do everything to prove it. “This club has ambition. If not, I wouldn’t be here.

Beckham Told to Skip TomKat Wedding
Washington Post – Nov 20, 2006
In 1999 he helped the team win the Champions League, the English league and the FA Cup. Moving to another team will also give him more playing time and a chance to get back on the national team _ though that seems unlikely with McClaren in charge. England, which has only two wins and a tie from its four Euro 2008 qualifying matches, next plays a competitive game at Andorra on March 28. A jump to the United States, however, will all but end any chance he has to get back on the national team because neither McClaren nor any other England coach is likely to pick someone playing in MLS. But consider the benefits: He’ll be able to hang out with Tom and Katie. © 2006 The Associated Press.

Hegarty cleared for Cup final duties || St Patrick’s Athletic ||… – Nov 23, 2006
However, his case will not be heard until a later meeting of the eircom League?s Disciplinary Commission ? meaning any touchline ban will not come into effect until the start of next season. Hegarty is expected to become caretaker manager for the Cup decider, with boss Stephen Kenny having stressed his commitment to Dunfermline Athletic earlier this week.

Switzerland rejects UEFA demand for law against rogue advertising
International Herald Tribune – Nov 23, 2006
Swiss daily Tages-Anzeiger reported that Switzerland will stick with its existing laws banning misleading advertising during the tournament, which the Alpine country is co-hosting with Austria, and not establish an outright ban on unlicensed advertising that refers to soccer or the 16-team competition. UEFA, according to the paper, had been lobbying the government to tighten controls on how companies can use the championship for marketing purposes. “We take note of this decision, but that’s all, as far as we are concerned,” UEFA spokesman Wolfgang Eichler told The Associated Press. “An organizer of large events, like us, would prefer extra protection,” he said, but added that UEFA would accept the current rules. “We always take a commonsense approach… “An organizer of large events, like us, would prefer extra protection,” he said, but added that UEFA would accept the current rules. “We always take a commonsense approach. It was never about the baker selling Euro 2008 pastries, but if that baker sold 700,000 with our logo on them, then we would step in. ” Today in Sports.

If this happens in the future we will face serious problems. “League rulesLithuanian league rules dictate that no side can field more than six foreign players at any time but that did not prevent FK Vilnius from registering 14 foreign players this season, the majority from Brazil. However, the policy was not a notable success as they finished seventh following last season’s fifth place. Vilnius president Algimantas Breikštas has proposed that restrictions on foreign players be abandoned, but received little support from his peers. However, with the only club in the league which featured an entirely Lithuanian squad, FK Nevežis, finishing bottom of the table, the A Lyga’s dalliance with foreign stars looks set to continue.

Knee troubleThe Argentinian striker suffered knee ligament damage during the Serie A leaders’ 1-0 win against Reggina Calcio on Sunday and, following a scan today, has been ruled out of action for six weeks. The 32-year-old, who was replaced by Adriano after seven minutes of the weekend fixture at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, will miss the rest of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Close contestThe Nerazzurri are second in Group B a point ahead of Sporting Clube de Portugal, who they face tomorrow, and four behind FC Bayern München, who they meet on 5 December.

Champons League: Miller Eyes Victory – Nov 21, 2006
United are massive favourites to win at Celtic Park, but Scottish international Miller is adamant that a famous win in front of their passionate supporters is possible. He said: “We need to get something from the game, there’s no doubt about it. “But it has been shown that they can be beaten, they are not immortal. They are a good team, don’t get me wrong, but we can beat them. “We know that we have enough in the squad to go and win the game.

Great goalAn hour into only his second UEFA Champions League game, against FC Spartak Moskva, Nani picked up the ball in the opposition half, laid it off to Liedson then darted forward to collect the Brazilian’s return pass. One touch took the 19-year-old beyond the Spartak defence. He rounded the goalkeeper then, from a tight angle, lifted it into the net. It was the one moment of brilliance from Sporting in a match that Spartak dominated, but it was enough to earn the Portuguese side a point that keeps their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

But 2016 presents an interesting race. Barrett all come to mind and we’re only halfway through the season. But there is another quintet of exciting players gaining steam, none of whom had especially healthy oddsas the year began. With that in mind, let us examine the nation’s five unexpected candidates who have deservedly become a part of the Heisman conversation.Browning has led the purple and gold back to national prominence by becoming the linchpin of Chris Petersen’s rebuilding project. While it was hard to immediately determine the extent of the damage and destruction, the resounding sounds of huge explosions heard around Sanaa on Friday night suggested that the Saudi led strikes were taking a toll. The strikes’ target is Houthi rebels, a Shiite Muslim minority group that wholesale jerseys has taken over the capital and, on Wednesday, captured key parts of the Yemeni port city of Aden. We’re going to limit your access to those things. So, I will tell you this from a player’s standpoint, I have never been around a player that didn’t put more pressure on himself to play cheap nfl jerseys injured than the team did and certainly there’s a ton of pressure. That’s certainly the culture of the team and players do know the risks. As a Polish friend observed to me some years ago: prada online cheap jerseys outlet Till the year 48 the Polish problem has been to a certain extent a convenient rallying point for all manifestations of liberalism. Since that time we have come to be regarded simply as a nuisance. It s very disagreeable.League scouts are extremely active once students get to about Year 11 onwards. The Ioane boys, Rieko and Akira, I’m told, had the option of signing with an NRL club when they were 15. Both stayed with rugby but many others won’t.Schools that offer full scholarships to promising rugby players are effectively running interference and anything that can keep league at bay is appreciated by the powers that be.It’s not a good enough reason, however, to keep turning a blind eye to school sports shenanigans. That means an Etsy seller can pay a team of employees, so long as they all work together under one roof.Sellers on Etsy can even employ “assistants” to do work on their items outside their place of business so long as the assistants’ work does not collectively “comprise a majority share of a handmade item’s creation.”Despite Etsy’s attempts to clarify and better enforce its rules, some users still fear that Etsy’s fast growing marketplace will cease to serve as a haven for truly independent designers, ultimately hurting craftspeople who don’t have the resources to scale up their operation.”What I fear is this wonderful marketplace that is supported on a huge cloud of little people will leave us all behind as it goes to this next level,” one commenter recently wrote in an Etsy forum.
