Poland’s Sejm, or lower house of the Parliament, Friday voted overwhelmingly for a draft law that enpowers the government to prepare necessary facilities for the 2012 European football championship to be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

“The responsibility for the finals rests with the government which gave guarantees (to FIFA and UEFA),” Poland’s minister for sports Elbieta Jakubiak said in Sejm after the vote.

“The law gives necessary tools to the government and cities that will host the matches. The stadium in Warsaw will be financed with budget money,”Jakubiak was quoted by Polish PAP news agency.

Jakubiak stressed that investment plan for the games would be ready by the end of the year. “We have sufficient funds,” she added.
